When I first started this storyline back in 2014, I had never heard of Marvel’s Squirrel Girl character. As the story progressed, I gradually became aware of the character, but I figured she was a minor player in the Marvel universe. Now as my story approaches the climax, I hear rumor that Squirrel Girl is going to become a major character and may even appear in a movie.
I only mention this because there are always some folks who will accuse you of ‘ripping off’ ideas, and trying to capitalize on the popularity of someone else’s work, and I actually considered changing into some other animal midway through the story. Obviously, I decided to stay the course and continue on with the squirrels. I’m not ripping anybody off, and I don’t think Marvel can copyright using squirrels in a comic…
So here we are. Achilles and the Tek-Squirrels would actually be a cool (and strange) name for a band, and if anyone out there wants to use it, you’re welcome to it. If the band takes off and does great, I hope you’ll give a mention to Henchmen for Hire, but I won’t begrudge you the use of the name. I hope all those Squirrel Girl fans out there feel the same way….
Squirrel Girl was a minor, obscure Marvel Character until about 2005. Since then, she’s become more and more mainstream. Probably since the entire point of her character is to be silly and lighthearted and Marvel… Marvel has issues. 😉
This has to be the most amusing page in Henchemen thus far. It also explains that ominous scene when achilles’s eyes opened while the henchmen were wandering around tek support’s lair.
No worries, Achilles is definitely NOT a girl :-). And if Marvel tried to copyright squirrels, it’d be the silliest thing since Lucas Arts copyrighted all German WWII insignia after the first Indiana Jones movie came out …
Yes, this is truly risible and just in time, too. I was rather disgruntled about the nasty tone the previous panel had taken. Bruiser escapes from jail, gets an assassin to find out his son’s abilities and coerces Evers into tracking down the kid. After all that, he decides his end game is simply to kill everybody. It just seemed like such a waste of time and energy on Bruiser’s part. Now we have Achilles and the Tek Squirrels. Ha ha ha!
Look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fictional_rodents_in_animation if you are afraid of somebody taking out a copyright on squirrels. Anybody attempting to copyright squirrels would be just plain nuts.
I like what you did there. There’s always room for a good pun or two….
Squirrels are just evil little buggers. A lot of Webcomic artists tell me that:

No Worries. Long before Marvel came out with Squirrel Girl, the webcomic “Bullfinch” had high tech squirrels. If Marvel says anything get the creator of Bullfinch to sue Them!
If faced with the choice of a horrible death, and being saved by,, squirrels,,, it would be a toss-up. Now if they would also kill any witnesses,, then, maybe.
I bet money the villain will laugh and wind up getting his ass embarrassingly beat.
ah bullfinch…yes it did and it was good until that one stopped updating.
HAH! yes you’ve got the gist of it!
You should invest in some lottery tickets next….
