If you’ve been wondering up to this point why Tek Support hasn’t been too kindly to his ‘partner’ Achilles, you can guess that he’s probably bitter about the whole captured and beaten thing.
By the time this page is posted, I should be returning home from a visit to this year’s Emerald City Comic Con. I’m hoping I will have taken some good pictures and have collected some good stories to tell that I can share with you in upcoming posts. Crossing fingers here.
Yes, I can see that. I suppose I wouldn’t be too happy with Achilles, either, plus it’s a little easier than blaming himself for some GIGO programming or not having some sort of insulated back-up control affixed to Tek’s person instead of his gear.
Then again, being bitter towards Achilles is Tek being angry with himself. The creation is always a reflection of the mind of the creator, after all.
By the way, Tek and Achilles may be the most interesting, fresh characters you’ve introduced. That’s not to sell the others short—they’re great, too—but while I know this idea has been done before (In the cartoon “Gigantor” and its imitator, “Frankenstein, Jr.” for certain) your spin on it is really original. I don’t think anyone has ever explored what happens to these boy robotics geniuses after they grow up.
I find as I’m working through the stories, the backstories of the heroes and villains tend to expand and extend off to unexpected directions. One of the ‘benefits’ of telling the story in the webcomic format is that I can occasionally wander off and explore these characters a little more than I had originally intended. I think it makes the whole tale more interesting, although it can sometimes be difficult to get back on the main road. It also makes collecting the tales into printed graphic novels a little more challenging, as the planned 90-page book expands into a 140+ page adventure (VIXX Saga…) that costs more to print and ship than I would have liked. Oh, well. Story comes first….
