Whenever someone else draws the Henchmen for Hire, I’m always pleasantly surprised to see their new and unique interpretations of these characters that I’ve become so familiar with. It’s very inspiring and energizing to see them through different eyes.
I’ll be taking a short break from Henchmen for Hire for the next three weeks, as we’re rolling into graduation season, and I’ll be helping family to celebrate the big events. So during the story break I’ll be posting some other folks drawings of the Henchmen for Hire guys. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
This drawing is by the very talented Kari Smith. You can sample her work at www.plumecomic.com.
Very Wizard of Oz. But where is the dog to pull back the curtain?
Aw. I’ve always been a sucker for the classics. Where’s the secret curtain?
Henchmen are sometimes called ‘dogs.’ Part of the employee vetting process, I imagine. They know where to look – but will they?
Now Lowla’s on board?! But I do have to appreciate her appreciation for a classic.
And this really raises questions of why he picked this role for himself, the charlatan fraud without any real power. Does he want to lull them into a sense of false security (and I did not mean the pun, but I wonder if the panda Lowla is lulling the crew now- darn you narrative suspicions!)? Is he completely unaware of the connotations of the role he chose (doubtful)? Or does he just enjoy the show for it’s own sake (doubtful that that’s all there is to it, but it could be most)?
Anyway, yeah, this is fun.
